Self-Renewal: Results

Hey Everyone! We’re entering the third month of the year and during the last two months, I spoke with a lot of people who shared testimonies about significant breakthroughs in their lives. Those breakthroughs came in the form financial blessings, career opportunities, weight-loss, improved health, relationship progress, improved balance in their lives and the list goes on.

How are you doing?!

While it’s easy to report on the results and fruit of your labor, it’s not always easy to stay the course when you’re journeying toward change. I just wanted to take a few minutes to share the main take-aways I received while learning about these hard-working people and their inspiring breakthroughs.

Why did they see results?

The most COMMON DENOMINATOR these people shared was that they STARTED. What do I mean? They took steps toward doing something, even if they weren’t sure where their steps would take them. They took chances, despite the doubts and fears they experienced at the beginning and, undoubtedly, throughout the process of achieving their respective successes. Often times, people get stuck thinking about all the pros and cons of an idea and they’re so intimidated by the “what ifs” that they don’t do anything except continue to think about what they may lose or gain. STOP IT. Don’t just think; DO.

How did they continue to move in an upward direction?

I want to preface this next sentence by reminding you that there will be inevitable setbacks when you are stepping out on faith, taking risks and doing something different. In spite of those setbacks, these people KEPT pushing and fighting for what they believed would change their lives for the better. When one door closed, they had their moment (or moments) of discouragement, but picked up again and tried something else. Whether it was seeking guidance from someone who had already “been there, done that” or just taking another risk after reassessing their previous failed attempt, there was a new direction taken in order to achieve the same desired result.

Easier said than done, right?

I began reading “Originals” by the very insightful and, honestly, just brilliant Adam Grant. This book opened by eyes to the FACT, not opinion, that successful people aren’t more talented than everyone else; they often just make more attempts at getting the job done. He talks about Beethoven and Picasso, each famous for their creativity and success, having produced TONS of works before earning that stamp of approval by others for just a few of those works. They produced work that was highly regarded and work that went on to be criticized for being less than their “best.” They didn’t STOP; they kept going. They and many others who are “killing it” in their fields faced (and continue to face) criticism, failure, rejection and discouragement, but kept pushing and continue to strive for the goals they set.

How can you succeed?

Again, you need to start where you are and stop thinking about whatever it is you’re thinking about. Accept that failure and challenges will be part of the process, but resolve to continue trying despite the inevitable hardships ahead of you. Get yourself some support; people or resources that will help to keep you on track and getting back to the grind. Will Smith, an American actor most famous for his roles in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” the “Men In Black” film series and the “Bad Boys” film series, to name a few, created an Instagram account (that I highly recommend you follow!)  and shared a video where he spoke about success. A fan told with him that he also wanted to be a famous actor and become successful, like Will had done in his 30+ year career. Will told the story and offered some insight; so many people want the success, but aren’t willing to put in the work and make the sacrifices necessary to achieve that success. YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK, MAKE THE SACRIFICES AND MAKE IT HAPPEN.

If you do anything in your life, please do something that will force you to step outside of your comfort zone. Forge the growth you’re absolutely capable of and watch your life start to change. I don’t have any statistics to support this next statement, but I bet YOU are the person/thing/obstacle in the way of your goals. When you resolve and commit to that resolution of change, you will do what you have to in order to see change. Why waste time thinking about things for so long when you can use that energy to try things that will lead to results. Remember, results, negative or positive, are feedback that will guide your next steps. Don’t live in fear of failure; live in spite of that fear and push fear out of the equation.

Have a great March! I’ll check in again in a couple of weeks! If you’re looking for some help in creating your own breakthrough, reach out between now and March 10, 2018 so we can discuss how we may be able to benefit from working together in a coach/client setting. I’m taking two new clients in March to begin March 18, 2018!
